SUMMARY

We use should for giving advice

·         You should call him as soon as possible

·         He should see an English teacher

·         We should ask  a building consultant

We use should to give an opinion or a recommendation.

·         He should take a rest now

·         We should  invest more in property

·         They should do something about this problem

Should express a personal opinion and is much weaker and more personal than must or have to. It is often introduced by ‘ I think’

·          I think they should repair the tool

·         I don’t think we should make an appointment

·         Do you think we should arrive on time

Grammar

Should+ Simple                            (S+should+V1+O+A)

Should+Continuous                  (S+should+be+Ving+O+A)

Should+Perfect                            (S+should+have+V3+O+A)

Example:

You should speak replace the director

You should be speaking to him about it

I should have visited Borobudur temple

Exercises

Put the verbs in brackets with “should” or should have”
